Earring Styles You Need to Know

How to accessorize with earrings begins with knowing the different types of earrings.

Let’s first introduce you to the types of earrings.

Studs with single gemstone

Studs: In most cases, studs are small earrings that are tightly attached to the ear lobe. From simple single gemstones set in claw shapes to the fun character and picture studs, there are a wide variety of types.

Cluster Earrings with multiple gems and branches

Cluster Earrings: These decorative earrings sit tightly on the earlobe and come in the form of a stud or with a slight drop. They are composed of numerous gemstones or combinations of gemstones.

Drop Earrings hangs below the earlobe

Drop Earrings: This type hangs below the earlobe and the length varies. Ear drops are often more delicate and static than other earrings.

Dangle Earrings

Dangle Earrings: Usually longer than a drop earring, hanging further below the ear lobe. Danglers are also designed to be complex and have more flexible movements.

Chandelier Earrings: These earrings are considered a luxurious style, gorgeous and complex, and resembles a fancy chandelier with aggregated levels.

Hoop Earrings

Hoop Earrings: Hoops loop from the front of the earlobe to the back. The most common shape is round, but earrings can also be oval, square, or triangular. They can be small or large – the larger they are, the more significant the effect. Larger and more magnificent baskets are often referred to as gypsy hoops, associated with a boho look.

Huggie Earrings: A type of hoop earring with huggies tightly wrapped around the earlobe.

Cuff earrings: This comfortable style is around at the edge of the ear (over the cartilage). They can be large or small, of a solid form or a more intricate design.

Threader Earrings: An unusual and minimalist style of earring, which is a thin piece of metal or chain that threads through the piercing hole to hang on both sides of the ear lobe.

Ear Climbers: Climbers start climbing their ears from the bottom, providing the opposite effect of dangling earrings. By nature, they are more rigid than drops and danglers.

Jacket earrings: This may be the most unique type of earring, with the main part of the earring hanging behind the earlobe and secured in front with a stud or stone.
